Maybe it’s just my attempt at feeling like we have seasons here in LA, but I woke up the other day wanting to make fall inspired candy apples. So with a little help from my sister and the twigs from her backyard this is what we came up with…did i mention easy? I tried to make the real deal caramel, but I burned it (the Emmy’s were on!) so I gave up and used a bag of caramels. Melted them down with a little milk and voila!
What you need:
I’m partial to green apples but you can use red or green
A bag of Caramels
1/2 cup whole milk
Sticks (or twigs!)
There are so many toppings to choose from, get creative! We used RedHots, pretzels, butterscotch and butterfingers. You could also make halloween apples. Crush some oreos and drizzle melted marshmellow across the tops. Yummy.
Heat a sauce pan or pot to medium/low heat
Add caramels, stir
Once they soften add milk
Make sure it doesn’t get too hot
Push sticks into apples
Roll apples in Caramel and place on parchment paper
Add toppings while caramel is still sticky
Cool in refrigerator
