One thing that makes me really happy in life is spontaneity. So two days in advance, Nick and I hoped on a plane and met up with my sister and her husband, in Maui. I hadn’t been since my sisters 16th birthday special on the WB (if you are a longtime Hilary fan, you might even remember it) so some Hawaiian time was long overdue. I did all the things you are supposed to do on vacation. Spent time at the pool, drank sugary drinks (that i would normally never allow myself to drink), and ate great food.
On the great food note, if you have ever been to Hawaii you are probably familiar with their local food trucks. They aren’t like the glittery food trucks we see scattered across Los Angeles. They are straw huts with hand painted signs and you choose your lunch spot based on where the best smell is coming from…and after paddle boarding for a few hours that’s literally what we did.
Sadly, I didn’t get a picture of the best hot dog I have probably ever had…a guy named Kong cooks them roadside. He was a Hawaiian local in all of their tan, fantastic glory. I did however remember to snap the pulled pork sandwich on a purple bun and the fish tacos with mango and pineapple salsa.
Simple, classic, delicious….and Hawaiian.
